Delicious Smoked Meats and Fish With the Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain

With the home method of meat smoking growing so quickly in popularity, many people are looking for the best smoker for this purpose.  I love grilling and smoking foods at home, so through the years I’ve tried many different grills and smokers.  I’ve had a chance to get to know my Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain cooker, and I’d like to share some of what I’ve discovered about this cooker.

One thing in particular my family enjoys is whole smoked turkeys and hams.  Not all cookers can accommodate large cuts of meat, so you want a smoker that has a capacity that won’t limit you on what you want to cook.  The cooker is not so heavy that you cannot easily move it around, as it weighs only around 45 pounds.

The smoker has a good sturdy build with steel grade bowl and lid, and the unit is enamel coated to prevent rust and last for many years.  The cooking grates are very impressive and made from triple plated nickel.  The smoke vents are rust resistant aluminum along with the fuel door.

What is neat about home meat smoking is studying how the Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain cooker actually works.  Meat smoking is a slow cooked method, unlike grilling, so the meat is cooked for longer periods at lower temperatures than traditional grilling methods.

You can enjoy the smokehouse flavor of meat and fish without having to go to a restaurant to get it.  We enjoy cooking large birds and tender roasted meats, and the porcelain enameled water pan allows you to gently steam the foods, so you end up with moist and juicy instead of dry and flavorless.

If you are looking for a smoker to get you started at home, the Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain is one model I’ve actually used.  You do have to add charcoal during the cooking process, and you can also add wood chips in your favorite flavor such as hickory or mesquite for even more delicious smoked flavor.
